The CH-53E “Super Stallion” is the largest and heaviest helicopter in the U.S. Military and these Chivers are at the helm. It’s primary a transportation vehicle with the capability of lifting 56,000 pounds while traveling at over 190mph. Armed with 2 window-mounted .50 cal GAU-15/A machined guns and a ramp mounted .50 cal GAU-21 (M3M version), this bird can also lay down some firepower.
The following are submits from a Marine Chiver’s e-mail.
“Photos from my deployment to Djibouti, Africa in 2011-2012 with a Marine CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter squadron. We had helicopters, .50 cal machine guns, cheetahs, and a whale shark tried to kill me. By far the most epic 7 month deployment I’ve ever been on.”
