Daniel Day-Lewis may be one of the most famous method actors in Hollywood. For three months, while filming “Lincoln”, he never broke character, even signing his texts with “Abe” (alright, modern technology aside). He also caught pneumonia during “Gangs of New York” because he refused to wear a modern warm coat. His most notable though is his performance in “The Crucible”. For months Day-Lewis lived on the 17th century set. He built his character’s house by hand using only 17th century tools, traded his motorcycle for a horse, and lived with no electricity or running water.
