The new Joker movie hit theatres earlier this week and it seems like the perfect time to take a look at the history of the Clown Prince of Crime in cinema.
The Joker made his first appearance in Batman #1 (1940). Since then, the infamous villain has been reimagined and portrayed in hundreds of different adaptations.
Here’s where things get tricky. Because of the multiple variations of the Joker, and his lack of an origin story, it can be difficult to only look at one version of him.
So, for this list, I’m going to include every representation of the character in movies and TV even if it’s not technically the ‘real’ Joker.
