Movies and television create all kinds of unrealistic expectations about life, and when you were an impressionable young mind, you often took those expectations to heart. Seven-year-old me was positive that by 27 I would have reached for the same apple at the supermarket as the love of my life. I would have saved her from quicksand, too. But life isn’t the movies. So here I am, swiping away on Tinder, living with the disappointing reality that the closest I’ve come to rescuing a beautiful woman from quicksand is pulling my New Balance sneaker out of a mud puddle.
We asked Chivers on Instagram to share the things they saw in movies and shows that they thought would be common, until they grew up and realized that often times, reality isn’t stranger than fiction after all.
