I read something the other day that I think sums up this whole experience, at least for me. I can’t remember who wrote it or I’d cite it here, but he wrote that to him, it feels like he’s simultaneously overreacting and underreacting to the outbreak. And that’s where the US is at right now. We shouldn’t be partying on crowded beaches, but we shouldn’t be stabbing each other over toilet paper, either. We need to find a healthy middle ground.
Hopefully this girl’s story will help put you in a mindset of ease, yet caution. However, it’s important to remember that she is young and presumably has no prior conditions. It’s important to remember that even though it looks like she’ll fully recover, even though you may be around the same age and health as her, 1 in 4 people over the age of 85 have died after contracting this thing. It’s no joke. So stay safe. Avoid social gatherings. If you work somewhere that you’re in charge of people PLEASE let them work from home. Do it for the grandmas. Do it for the vulnerable people you help through Chive Charities.
