It’s the holiday season and the Chive Charities team is buzzing. We’re committed to doing as much charity work as possible during this holiday season. Since Chive Charities began we’ve had a running dialogue about burn victims, particularly children with 2nd and 3rd degree burns.
The physical scarring is often surpassed by the emotional scaring the burns cause. Our diligence process led us to a single place, The Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation. Started in 1971, the AARBF was the first to pioneer the now famous technique, ‘Stop, drop, and Roll.’ AARBF is as committed to preventing burns as they are to treating them.
AARBF does one very cool thing each year that caught our attention. They invite 130 burn survivors ages 5-16 to a week-long Champ Camp in Wonder Valley, California.
Champ Camp is free to all burn survivors and is fully staffed by medical doctors, nurses, program staff, volunteers and counselors. This crew also includes adult burn survivors and firefighters. Activities at the camp include fishing, horseback riding, crafts, canoeing, archery, water slides, and team building activities. It provides a safe environment where burn survivors can play, learn, grow, gain self-esteem, and, most importantly, make new friends.
We’ve met many burn survivors this year who have asked us to not only donate AARBF but to do so in a way that brings attention to their amazing cause. On behalf of theCHIVE community, Chive Charities would like to announce a $50,000 grant to the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation. This grant will help send burn survivors to Champ Camp this year. We believe these young children need all the confidence the AARBF can instill in them and we’re honored to be able to weigh in so heavily on this amazing cause.
