Comedian Jamie Costa portrayed Robin Williams in a video uploaded to his YouTube channel. The short, entitled ROBIN Test Footage Scene, shows Williams on set of the late ’70s early ’80s sitcom Mork & Mindy . He’s in his trailer preparing for a scene when Mork & Mindy costar Pam Dawber (played by Sarah Murphree) enters to break some crushing news: Saturday Night Live star and friend of Williams, John Belushi, has died.
The five-minute-long video shows Costa’s ability to nail a spot-on impression of Williams. But it also shows he is a genuinely gifted actor.
Despite what the title suggests, the video is not a real demo for a feature-length film. But people were so blown away by Costa’s portrayal of the legendary comic, they’re now calling for just that. Could the video, which has received 1.7 million views in only two days, spur an actual ROBIN film starring Costa as the titular role? That remains to be seen. But two things are clear: Costa certainly has the chops to pull it off, and the rest of us are willing to let him try.
