Thanks to the folks over at IMDb and Box Office Mojo there is an accurate tally of the highest-grossing films by year, ever since 1975. In addition, to be exceptionally accurate, the global box-office receipts have been adjusted for inflation through 2016 using the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ inflation calculator. Lastly, critic ratings from Metacritic (on a scale from 1 to 100) in addition to fan ratings from IMDb (on a scale of 1 to 10) have been added for each film. 1975: “Jaws” (Above) Adjusted gross: $2.09 billion Unadjusted gross: $471 million Critic rating: 79 Fan rating: 81
