For years, addiction and mental health issues were kept in the shadows. By nature, we’re scared to admit when we have a problem, or sometimes we don’t even see it as a problem at all. Except it is, a big one. Opioid addiction is at an all-time high, and it’s getting worse every year. Last year alone, there were 72,000 overdose deaths in the US, 30,000 of those directly related to fentanyl and synthetic opioids.
But when we hear these numbers, what does it actually tell us? Are we really understanding the impact of this disease and how it tears apart families? Or are we just adding another “junkie” to an ever growing statistic? It sucks to admit it, but there’s still a lot of people out there that simply don’t know enough about addiction and mental health and are quick to sweep it under the rug.
