When Houston Chivers throw parties, we can expect two things. The first is that they are MASSIVE. Hundreds of people pack into their parties and cut loose. Not shocking considering Houston is the largest city in Texas and the fourth largest in the US. But along with the sheer size of their meetups, their generosity is just as big.
On May 31, 2013, four brave Houston firefighters lost their lives in a motel fire while searching for victims. Houston Chivers banded together to raise funds for the families of the fallen firefighters and raised $2,000 in one night. That was just the start.
Since then, Houston continues to come together on social media, setting up unofficial meetups and changing their community for the better. Most recently, the Houston Chivers threw a meetup for the Cobb family and their foundation, the JuCan Foundation, which supports families with children suffering from cancer. Jonathan Cobb, the father and founder of the JuCan Foundation, struggled with cancer himself before his 8-year-old daughter Julia was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, in December of 2011.
While the Houston Chivers began planning the meetup, the Cobb family went to Disney World for Julia’s Make a Wish trip. Tragedy struck on the last day of the vacation when Julia passed away.
Rather than canceling the fundraiser, Jonathan refused and instead chose to honor his daughter’s mission to help all of the other kids who were suffering. Together they raised over $9,000.
Houston Chivers have raised over $50,000 for Chive Charities and local charities in the past year.
Everything is bigger in Texas. Now they have a big ol’ Bona Fide Chapter. To celebrate, Houston Chivers wanted to show what makes their chapter and state one of the best in the country. Congrats, guys!
