For me it started around third or fourth grade. That badass-looking and satisfying-to-draw “S” made up of two rows of three parallel lines. It filled the margins of our notebooks, the bathroom stalls, and the part of the blacktop where kids played with chalk. Sometimes you’d get real crazy with it and draw a column of interlocking Ss down the entire side of a page. If your name started with an “S” you drew it even more (mine still looked better, Steve). But where did it come from? I went down a rabbit hole of message boards and Wikipedia pages to find out, returning to the surface with a whole bunch of theories. Put your pen down and pay attention because I’m gonna break them down for you. Like this post? 0 Liked! 0 Disliked 0
