Every year around this time, we return to New Orleans to hit the reset button on our lives. There’s something magical about The Big Easy. On the surface, the tourists roam Bourbon St. with drinks in hand, exploring the usual suspects of bars and restaurants. But then somewhere in the slip stream of New Orleans lies the real soul of NOLA – small jazz pubs like Fritzel’s, real Nawlin’ restaurants like Jacques Imo’s, and dimly lit hideaways like The Dungeon.
In New Orleans, you can find yourself suddenly outside the Frat, piped into an unexpected spiritual journey you’ll never forget. It seemed, for us, the perfect place to kick off #RAKit week.
New Orleans is a service industry city, something I’m very familiar with. I worked as a waiter and bartender in LA for the better part of 7 years before landing a recurring role on True Blood and then starting theCHIVE shortly thereafter. During those scarce years, I gained an understanding about an industry that makes its living on tips. I had my share of stiffs, but I always remembered how one great tip could turn your night around. So in this gallery, you’ll see some tips, please know it’s not my intent to brag, it’s just one of those things I know from experience can make a long night behind the bar so much better.
Welcome to New Orleans.
