Daryn Blackwell was just 10 years old when he was diagnosed with leukemia. Then a year later, he was diagnosed with a second form of cancer, the rare Langerhans cell sarcoma.
Almost half a decade went by — nothing was working. Daryn’s future grew bleaker and bleaker.
Then his parents began looking into medical cannabis as a painkiller. Problem was, the doctors couldn’t prescribe the form he needed, known as Bedrocan, because it hadn’t yet been tested on children in the U.K. So his parents resorted to acquiring it illegally by meeting a man at a gas station.
Daryn’s mother, Callie, wrote in her new book, The Boy In 7 Billion, “We took a decision that will horrify many parents reading this – and horrified me, too.
“After all, I’d never seen anything positive come of smoking cannabis, and in my days working in nightclubs, illegal drugs had been my enemy.
“But if it could help my darling boy escape his daily torment, I was willing to try it.”
