In case the quotes around the word “scientific” didn’t tip you off, this isn’t exactly peer-reviewed, but there is a methodology. The website Wallethub used 26 different indicators (including number of restaurants, movie ticket prices, proximity to national parks, etc.) to rank the 50 states.
We’re only going to roll with the top twenty, starting at 20 and working our way up. Hopefully your home state ranks! You have a solid 40% chance it does (unless you’re in West Virginia, which is dead last on the list).
