You have to always be careful about who you choose to be your roommate. You can think you know someone well enough until you share close quarters with them day in and day out — now you realize this person chews food like a starving pug, plays dubstep loudly every chance they get, and wipes their boogers on the side of the couch that’s against the wall, and when you move the couch to vacuum, you discover the collection of dried mucus balls — dozens of them — clinging to the upholstery of your prized sofa (this actually happened to a friend of mine, by the way. Horrifying stuff).
