A 61-year-old man was admitted to the ER that was shit-faced wasted, except he claimed he hadn’t had a sip of alcohol. While the medical staff thought Mr. Pants-On-Fire was just pulling a drunken prank, it turned out he was suffering from Auto-Brewery Syndrome, a rare condition where yeast is actually fermenting in your stomach. It was discovered that the man had a home brewery and had ingested a lot of yeast, and when he ate starchy food, the yeast fermented the sugars into ethanol. Drunken efficiency at its finest.
