If you’re a child of the 70’s and 80’s, you’ll remember this fateful day. On January 28, 1986, the NASA shuttle orbiter mission STS-51-L and the tenth flight of Space Shuttle Challenger (OV-99) broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, killing all seven crew members, which consisted of five NASA astronauts and a payload specialist and a civilian teacher. A sobering moment in the history of spaceflight, this event was televised all across the country, and is still the subject of some mystery and discussion.
In the 32 years that have transpired since then, people have questioned, theorized and pondered the events, and lapses in judgment and maintenance, that led to the explosion, and even now, there’s still more lingering questions than answers.
