“Today I was lucky enough to be there when my dad went out of service for the last time as an Independence Police officer. With the world we live in, this accomplishment is getting more rare every day. I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy some of the things my dad has been through. Ever since I was little, my dad has always been strict on me because of the things he sees and experiences as a police officer. I was always the last kid in my grade to be allowed to do anything–drive with friends, go to the movies without a parent, hang out at the mall, etc. Now, I’m one of the first in my grade to graduate college, own my own house, a new car, and have a great job. I can’t thank you enough for the lessons you’ve taught me and all the times you’ve been there for me. I know I complain about police when I get pulled over or get written a ticket, but I couldn’t be more proud of what he’s accomplished or more thankful for the way I was raised. My dad has always been my role model and I hope that when I have kids, I can be half the parent he was to me. I hope you have an amazing retirement! I love you, dad!”
