African Renaissance Monument
Situated outside Dakar, Senegal, the controversial 160 ft (49 m) bronze statue was built between 2008 and 2010 by North Korea-based Mansudae Overseas Projects.
It is the tallest statue in Africa and, upon its unveling, then President Wade explained that, ‘It brings to life our common destiny. Africa has arrived in the 21st century standing tall and more ready than ever to take its destiny into its hands’.
Which is nice.
