Both of my grandfathers served in WWII. It was instilled in me at an early age that neither thought of themselves as heroes, “We had a job to do,” said my Grandpa John, “Go give the Nazis and the Japanese a lickin’ they won’t ever forget and go home. The heroes are the men who didn’t return, the brave who gave the last full measure.”
My grandfather John also stressed the importance of remembering the fallen; that a man’s legacy is all anybody has left after they shuffle off this mortal coil.
