On New Years Eve in 1922, 15-year-old Joseph-Armand Bombardier surprised his family with an invention. He had mounted a Ford Model T engine to four runners and placed a handmade propeller on the back. It traveled over half a mile in the snow before stopping. He later perfected his model, adding tank-like tracks 13 years later. By 1959 his invention had turned into the Ski-Doo.
