I think of the minor injuries and illnesses I’ve “coped” with throughout my short 33 years that at the time it always felt like the bottom was dropping out from under me and it was the worst thing ever. And then I hear stories about people who’ve suffered from real heartache — having battles with PTSD, cancer, war injuries, and it always snaps things right back into perspective. I don’t have real problems, it’s just life happening, and everybody has something to battle.
And far too often illnesses don’t have an upbeat storybook ending. So when I heard the story of this man named Efraim Ondrej Kubik, who was forced to have life-saving surgery to remove bladder cancer, and it was a success, it was a wonderfully inspiring and heartwarming feeling I thought the world should share. But I’ll let Kubik set up the story and talk about the surgery and the life-altering recovery he experienced…
When I first heard the diagnosis, my life completely changed. I’ve had problems with health and especially urinating for about 2 years and my first doctor did not want to believe that my problems are worse than inflammation. When my problems worsened, I changed my doctor. I was immediately sent to CT and the results were disturbing – 3 cm tumor in my bladder. In less than a week, I found myself sitting in the hospital hall, waiting for my admission for surgery to remove the tumor, called TURT. This is my struggle throughout the hardest time of my life.
