He’s overweight. He’s middle-aged. And he’s an absolute monster in the octagon. Roy “Big Country” Nelson is proving that six pack abs don’t win fights.
The man says he doesn’t even like fighting. Hates it, in fact. Yet he has no plans to retire.
“I actually hate fighting, but I love the sport of MMA and I love going out there and just doing jiu-jitsu and boxing. It’s one thing that makes me get up in the morning.”
Nelson (22-14) has his sights set on the heavyweight championship belt. And he isn’t worried about the younger guys he’ll have to beat to get it.
“Randy (Couture) won the belt at 43,” Nelson said. “So I’ve got [a few] more years of even thinking about trying to get the belt.”
