Guys, you’ve heard me say it BEFORE, and you’ll likely hear me utter it AGAIN, somewhere in the last few years the world has gotten stuck high up their own self-righteous asses. And sadly we’ve been parked in “Sensitivity Land” for far too long.
Listen, before I come off all preachy like the crotchety old soul I’m turning into, understand that there are great and important social issues worth championing, I agree. However, not every single word, phrase, image, or moment experienced needs to be completely taken at face value; sometimes people say things in jest and a joke should be taken in the spirit it’s intended. Leave just a little space for grey before your brain autopilots to anger and social-shame mode.
And for all those perfect beings who’ve never done a wrong or immoral act in their lives, they should also realize that instinctively throwing another person under the bus with the intent of shaming doesn’t make you a better person, it makes you a bully. Sadly, these days we live in a highly divisive era. Emotions are as tumultuous as ever which makes for a society of people all walking on eggshells afraid of what they can or cannot say based on the popular opinion of the day. Original thought and individuality are being replaced with the “Just tell me what to say?!” mentality. And that isn’t helping anyone.
For all the good intentions of “social crusaders,” a great deal of harm can come from this intolerant mob-mentality, like inhibiting free speech, and ultimately creating an atmosphere of coddled babies who crumble at the first sign of frustration in their lives. Anybody notice how anxiety is on the rise lately? It’s not just politics, it’s also hard not to be “wrong” anymore in a society that seems intent on choosing exactly what is appropriate to say and anything outside that PC bubble will land you in the social penalty box.
Sometimes, like a kid bolstering their own immune system by getting a little dirty, or by learning a valuable lesson after running into the edge of a table without protective foam on it, we have to be willing take on hardships, criticisms, and difficulties in our lives. This will thicken our skin and help us evolve. Hearing other’s opinions that don’t align with our own is how personal growth and progress takes place. This is healthy, and diversity amongst all people should be a protected ideal.
So please, take these images in the spirit they’re intended, laugh, & lighten up for goodness sake.
