The amount of money a film franchise makes doesn’t necessarily indicate quality, but it sure as hell tells you everything you need to know about pop culture. We’re going to count down the ten biggest ones, but I’m going to throw out some disclaimers right now:
1. These box office totals come from The Numbers. This is based on what films they choose to include inside of a given franchise, which can be a bit weird. Also, these numbers are NOT adjusted for inflation and are unadjusted worldwide totals (otherwise, this list looks pretty goddamn different).
2. With that in mind, you can probably already guess what number one is, but there are some pretty surprising entries on the way there.
