The Internet is a breeding ground for hate and negativity, allowing people to hide behind their keyboards and say things they would probably never say in person. Living in the spotlight, celebrities use social media to connect on a more personal level with a wider audience but at the same time are forced to endure the wrath of abuse and endless insults, as we’ve all seen on the popular Jimmy Kimmel Live skit “Celebrities Read Mean Tweets” (here’s the video from last night’s edition).
The folks at Twiends decided to do some research and compiled a few different lists breaking down the most insulted celebrities on Twitter. Over the course of a year, they looked at over 6 million tweets to see which famous personalities, actors, musicians, and athletes receive the most messages containing words like “hate”, “stupid”, or “idiot”. Surprisingly, there’s a lot less Kardashian then you would think, and who would have thought Canada hates Leo so much. Take a look for yourself to see who topped the lists, it might not be who you were expecting.
