David Cronenberg (the man behind The Fly, Videodrome, Crash, Naked Lunch, A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, and many more) is one of my favorite directors of all time.
I tell you this because in 2012, he released a film called Cosmopolis. I wanted to love it, but after 15 minutes of watching it on Netflix, I shut it off. I couldn’t stand another second of it, and I’ve sat through movies like Mac and Me, Troll 2, Gotti, Night of the Lepus, and SyFy channel original movies for fun. I have been forged in the fires of terrible movies, and Cosmopolis is one of the only movies I’ve ever started and gave up on. I didn’t even come close to the halfway mark.
These poor bastards had similar experiences with the movies that follow, films that broke their spirits so thoroughly that they only made it halfway or less:
