I think here at theCHIVE it’s our job to make charity more fun. Long ago we created the ‘flash charity’ model, and I’m proud of that, you should be too. Chive Charities has raised over $13 million for the underdogs ever since. But how exactly did that happen? Little history…
Ten years ago it was a volunteer firefighter named Kenny George from Fluvanna Country, Virginia, who changed the landscape of charity forever. Kenny needed $20,000 to save his volunteer fire department and emailed me looking for a lifeline. I remember there was this new company called GoFundMe who could process thousands of payments from individual online donors, so we set up a page to help save the fire station. We raised $30,000 and the ‘flash charity’ model was born. I think about that moment all the time, because it changed the world for the better.
People have always looked to theCHIVE community to lead, lately more than ever. I’ve been wanting to push the limits of charity like we did when it started. One problem, I had absolutely no idea what to do.
