52 years ago YESTERDAY the most incredible sports feat I am aware of was pulled off.
Wilt’s 100, MJ’s flu game, Messier’s Guarantee, and even Bo Jackson’s multi-sport career all pale in comparison to Dock Ellis’s LSD-fueled no-hitter.
The day before Ellis’s scheduled start against the San Diego Padres he went to Los Angeles to spend some time with friends. He tripped acid and spent the night drinking and doing various drugs well into the morning.
At noon the next day, Ellis decided to take another hit of acid. He was unaware he was scheduled to pitch that evening.
