I think there comes a point in every person’s life where they realize that their parents were trying to prepare them for the real world.
When I was growing up, I was annoyed that my parents made my brother and I wash our clothes in the washing machine ourselves, not understanding they were teaching me a universal skill. When I got to college, one of my best friends had no fucking clue how to use one. And he came to that realization six weeks into living in the dorms, just washing his clothes without detergent (his girlfriend at the time was not amused to learn this).
These lessons are a bit more abstract than that, but plenty are practical things we just didn’t understand until we were older:
