You know, I grew up reading a bunch of books about animals in general, but the books about ocean life always freaked me out. Sure, a lot of that fear came from seeing Jaws too young, but the horror mostly came from how little we know.
But even I had no fucking clue just how little we know about eels in particular. This viral Twitter thread lays it out, and against all odds this is all (somehow) true:
