When you read Charles Dickens’ work, you’ll find that he tried to give a voice to things that were right. He spoke out against greed and cruelty, and tried to speak for the disenfranchised and the poor. He believed in redemption and in second chances. You’ll find these ideas in ‘A Christmas Carol,’ ‘Oliver Twist,’ and even in ‘A Tale of Two Cities.’ His words, inspired millions and he’s a vital part of English literature.
Privately though, he was pretty strange, and definitely didn’t embody any of the morality that he tried to infuse into his work. His life, in fact, was stranger, than the fiction he wrote.
