German journalist J. Bernard Hutton and photographer Joachim Brandt were sent by a newspaper to the Hamburg shipyard in 1932. Everything was fine until they realized they were in the middle of an air raid. When the bombs began raining down, they quickly escaped, but they managed to snap some photos first. At least they had gotten some proof, right? Wrong. When they developed the film they found no signs of an air raid.
Eleven years later Hutton (now living in London) opened up a newspaper and was shocked to read about Operation Gomorrah, an air raid on Hamburg. The photos looked exactly like what he remembered from 1932.
