Restaurants have lots of odd marketing techniques to get people in their doors. One rather specific way to stand out is to have comically large versions of classic foods. Pair that with a challenge and you’ve got people hooked. Some of these scenarios involve a single piece of food that weighs as much as a newborn baby, while others are more of a ‘how many can you eat?’ type of situation. It would be interesting to know how people feel after doing something like this, except the bodily aftermath is probably very unpleasant.
