It’s no secret that silencers on guns don’t sound the way they do in Hollywood films. While actual professional level suppressors significantly lower the decibels of any given shot, it doesn’t actually sound like the whisper-quiet “thwip” sound you hear throughout films.
So, how well do improvised silencers in movies actually work? You know, when the hero shoots through a milk carton or something like that? I don’t have a gun range to test these things out, but the fine folks at SilencerCo do. They’ve been making suppressors for over ten years, so they know a thing or two about how to make a gun quieter, and they’ve been running awesome (and hilarious) tests against Hollywood ideas for a while now.
